Fall/Winter 2018-2019 Research Team

Danika Wagner is currently enrolled in the Adult Clinical Psychology program at York University. She holds a BA (Honours) in Philosophy and Mathematics from Dalhousie University and a BA (Honours) in Psychology from York University. She is interested in understanding how we feel influences our preferences for activities. Specifically, her research focuses on the experience of mental effort and how it relates to the avoidance of effortful tasks, particularly among populations with ADHD. By connecting the experience of mental effort to lab-based measures of effort preferences, she hopes to further our understanding of attention and task engagement in clinical and non-clinical populations. She joined Anne MacLennan’s research team in September 2018, and she was working on the Interviews and transcriptions for the Programming, practices, production, and policy: Canadian community radio project.

 

Viktoriya Vinik was in her final year at York University, completing her Bachelor of Honors in Political Science with a focus on political economy. Her research interests include post-colonial thought, capital as power, financial crises and global North-South dynamics. She aims to pursue an MA degree, with a research focus on the political economy of Israel in its early stages. She joined Anne MacLennan’s research team in May of 2017, and she was working on the Interviews and transcriptions for the Programming, practices, production, and policy: Canadian community radio project.

 

Percival (Adjei) Scott was in his final year at York University, completing his Bachelors of Honors in History and a Minor in Latin American and Caribbean Studies. He is currently working as a Research Assistant for Professor Anne MacLennan who is Chair of the Department of Communication Studies at York. He intends on attending The University of Toronto to pursue his masters at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OSIE) with a Collaborative Specialization in Women and Gender Studies. His area of research will be focusing on black men and black masculinity. He joined Anne MacLennan’s research team in September of 2017, and he was working on the Interviews and transcriptions for the Programming, practices, production, and policy: Canadian community radio project.

 

 

Sarah Shash was a fourth-year undergraduate student pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. Sarah is passionate about culture and media in Canada and its impact on identity and social relations, shaping our local and broader communities. Upon completing her degree she intends to pursue a post-graduate program in Public Relations. She joined Anne MacLennan's research team in November 2018, and was working on the Interviews and transcriptions for the Programming, practices, production, and policy: Canadian community radio project.

 

Breagh MacDonald was a second year double-majoring in Theatre and Communication studies. Breagh has been involved in Theatre since she was four years old, and is now directing and stagemanging performances at York University. Her passion for media and literature lead her to also pursue a career in communication. Breagh was working on the Interviews and transcriptions for the Programming, practices, production, and policy: Canadian community radio project.

 

 

 

Shalini Sharma was a fourth-year undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Commerce program with Specialized Honours in Human Resources at York University. Her research interests include gender equity in the workforce and organizational theory. She joined Anne MacLennan's research team in February 2019 and was working on the Interviews and transcriptions for the Programming, practices, production, and policy: Canadian community radio project.

 

 

 

 

Lander Paulin was a fourth year student completing his Honors BA in English and BEd in Concurrent Education with a minor in Social Sciences. Upon completing his BA and BEd, he wishes to teach diaspora and multicultural literatures at the Intermediate/Senior levels as a schoolteacher in Ontario. He joined Anne MacLennan’s research team in October 2018, and was working on the Interviews and transcriptions for the Programming, practices, production, and policy: Canadian community radio project.

 

 

Prescilla Dupuis is a first year Honors Psychology student working towards her BA at York University. Her academic goals include pursuing her post graduate studies in criminal law, as well as contributing to different research projects during her studies. In her free time she competes as a competitive cheerleader for Limelight Cheerleading All-Stars on a level 5.0 worlds team ‘Hype’. She joined the team in October 2018 and was working on the Interviews and transcriptions for the Programming, practices, production, and policy: Canadian community radio project.

 

 

 

Roberto Curto is a fourth year communication studies and marketing student within the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University. His interests include CanCon, Politics, and Business. He was working on the Interviews and transcriptions for the Programming, practices, production, and policy: Canadian community radio project.

 

 

Jennifer Victolero is currently finishing her Honours BA in Communications at York University.  Her interests include sports, travelling and filming. She joined Anne MacLennan’s research team in November 2018 and was working on the Interviews and transcriptions for the Programming, practices, production, and policy: Canadian community radio project.

 

 

 

Jessica Ireland was a master's student in the Political Science program at York University. She was the 2019 recipient of the Packer Award for Social Justice and the Dean's Award for Research Excellence. She graduated summa cum laude from the Bachelor of Arts program in Political Science at York University in June 2019. Winnifred Kumi was a first-year undergraduate student in the program of Biomedical Science at York University. She was part of the ACE program which presents student with the opportunity to earn $5000 in scholarships from York University to pursue her studies. She aspires to complete her graduate studies leading to become an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN). Vanessa Sandoval was a fourth-year undergraduate student in York's Film Production program, minoring with a BA Honours History degree. After the completion of her BFA and BA in the Fall of 2019, she intends to pursue Canadian television network and digital content screenwriting and directing. Specifically, she is interested in the sociopolitical realm of grey surrounding Canada's multi-culturalism through the mediums of animation and live-action. Devin Stonick is a lover of literature and an aspiring English Professor. he did his undergrad at York University with a major in Communications and Media Studies which is where he became involved in radio studies as a Research Assistant for Dr. Anne MacLennan. He has since completed a master's in English at the University of Toronto. He is also the Editorial Assistant for The Journal of Radio and Audio Media.
